The Local Economy
Baysville DocksOur single largest employer in Lake of Bays is tourism.  Tourism in the traditional sense as visitors who travel in to and stay in our area, or travel through our villages are important.

Dorset Fire TowerBy far a key part of our economy are the property owners.  They, their guests and family are our best customers.  Their renovation and building dollars help to  keep contractors employed, along with maintenance workers, architects, building centers and landscape firms.

Visitors travel throughout the area to shop, by groceries, eat out, entertain at home, show their guests the gift shops and events, swim and boat.  They invest their dollars, time, and interest infusing our whole area and making it more prosperous.

As important as Tourism is to the Lake of Bays economy, I believe economic diversification would enhance lifestyles, retain a younger employment force to service retiree properties, and provide a broader base from which to produce tax revenues.

Cottage industry and home-base businesses will add to future employment.  In order to share the tax burden and help employment, the Municipality should encourage clean light industries to locate here.  At present Commercial Pallet outside Baysville on District Road #117, and Axiom Canada on Hwy #60 in Dwight, are good examples of such industries.  Initiatives to encourage and support local business will always be important.
